Law falls short again....

An album of horrific photos of the conditions animals were kept in at a so called rescue is circulating facebook this morning. This is hot on the heels of a court appearance for said rescue yesterday where they pleaded guilty and were fined 250. The comments, needless to say, are nearly all from entirely outraged people who can't quite believe that there was not a lifetime ban on keeping animals imposed. It is a sad state of affairs that someone who admits to this sort of neglect and abuse can continue to do what they do. It has sparked massive disucssions and rightly so. Far reaching total overhaul of the animal welfare laws and the legal structure required to properly prosecute and punish will take a long time and some seriously devoted legal people but it really is the only way that the change needed can begin to come about. Rescues and owners need to be accountable for every life they take responsibility for and anyone tha keeps animals, ISPCA included, should be insepcted regulary by an objective governing body. Unfortunately this is Ireland so it may well take 100 more years and I'm sure be open to just as much corruption as everything else. I do believe it's the only way forward and that it can't be achieved without total cooperation from rescue, legal and government bodies.
